For The Love Of My Job!

1. The stories
Everyone has a story, and each one is interesting to me. The people I meet, often times my new friends and neighbors, make me love my job. The life stories they share with me are so much fun to hear and definitely one of my favorite things about being a Realtor.
2. New day, new stuff
Sure, there are regular things I do, but every day brings a different combination of things. New people, new properties, and new challenges…no two days are ever the same and I like that.
3. I never stop learning
While it can make me a little nervous at time to not always have the answer , I am  someone who loves learning and my job provides a never ending supply of things to learn. Market ups and downs, exciting new technologies and social media and the various things that pop up in every deal keep me on my toes to say the least.
4. Other Realtors (mostly)
Realtors sometimes get a bad rap but really most of us are good people who work really hard. We may be in competition with one another but generally try to be helpful to one another.  A real estate office can be a great place to work. At least, mine is.
5. I get to help people
Moving is one of the most stressful things in life. When I’m able to minimize my clients stress and burden and to help them get where they want to be, that feels good.
6. Freedom and flexibility rock
We as Realtors must obey the laws and follow the rules, but there’s also plenty of room to run my business the way that suits me best and I’m free to be me.
7. Playing detective
When a couple is attracted to very different houses or properties it is a mystery to figure out which property will appeal to both of them. It takes investigation in the form of asking a lot of questions and then listening but in the end you get to help solve it and that’s pretty cool!
8. I get to be an artist
I can’t paint or play an instrument but in my job I get to be creative with my advertising, post cards, taking great photos, social media, writing my blog and the list goes on. I like thinking outside of the box.
9. I am the master of my fate...
Getting started, building business, and surviving the slow times are very hard. I remind myself every day that if I keep at it, work hard and never give up, I will get new business and can make a decent living. No one can take my job away and I like that.
10. And then there are the houses

Liking people is one thing but it's only the tip of the iceberg. I love houses. When you think about it, a house is not all that different than a person. Old, new, dated, rehabbed, big and small, they each have a personality and a story to tell. Yep, I love houses.

So You Wanna Be A Winemaker?

Well who wouldn't? What could be more picture book romantic than gazing out over your vineyard at sunset sipping a glass of wine that you made! The truth is wine making is a whole lot of work from dirt to glass. It takes good dirt, good grapes, cooperative weather, patience and a serious sense of humor most days in addition to a lot of back breaking labor to get from point a to b. Whoa, easy now, don't panic and for the love of Bacchus don't talk yourself out of wanting to be a winemaker. The good part, the one that I haven't told you yet, and the best part of all is that it's all worth it. It's hard, hell yes it is, but like most things that are its worth the effort. It's like falling in love a little at a time, and with some vines. From putting your hands in the soil to selecting and planting the vines to watering them and watching them grow. Training them, pruning and thinning them to assure that they are healthy and happy so that the grapes will be too. Waiting patiently for them to mature and ripen to the ideal point for harvest and then crush. Not to be too literal but it's kind of like watching a kid grow up and go away to college only in this instance "college" is a fermentation tank and then a barrel followed by a bottle, a glass and then your tummy. When I put it like that I guess it's not all that different than college. But I digress. Wine making is certainly not for everyone but if you discover that it is for you than you will fall in love whether you want to or not. It's some of the hardest work that you will do in your life but also some of the most fun and rewarding. Alas my love affair with wine making is a thing of my past and a lifetime ago and now continues only vicariously through the winemakers around me. Now I am just the lucky one who gets to enjoy the fruit of their labors. Could be worse. So you, yeah you, the hesitant dreamer who only fantasizes about making, get off your butt and on the phone and call me right now! Let's go find that vineyard of your dreams so that you can start to making the wine of mine... Ashley Trego with RE/MAX Mountain West located at 225 Grand Ave in Paonia. Mobile (303) 746-6114 /

"Fixer Uppers"

I have several clients who seek out "fixer upper" houses. They look for houses that have suffered from neglect or abandonment, but that still have good bones, and they bring them back to life! These types of properties are usually sold for a fairly low asking price and are often bank owned. It always amazes me to watch a house come back from the dead, so to speak. It not only restores a home but it can add beauty and value to a whole block or even neighborhood. I tip my hat to all of you fixer uppers and I look forward to working with more of you. Having said that I feel compelled to mention that I have just such a house and it needs you! Its in Hotchkiss and is located at 248 E. Orchard Avenue. It has seen better days and is badly in need of some love but I think it has potential for a full recovery by the hands of the right person. It's only $64,900 by the way. Here are some pics and a little info and if you decide you would like a closer look please give me a call or shoot me an email. Ashley Trego, RE/MAX Mountain West. (303) 746-6114 /
